Body contouring

What it is

Device treatments aim to change the outline or appearance of a small body area. Options include fat freezing, heat-based devices and muscle stimulation. They do not provide weight loss or its health benefits.

Appointment
30–90 minutes per area; multi-area visits can be longer
Downtime
Device-dependent soreness or numbness
Results
Weeks to months
Typical course
Cooling: review; other devices may need a course

Assessment comes first. Ask about suitability and recovery, and give yourself time to consider the options before booking a procedure.

Your appointment, explained

What to expect
  1. The practitioner checks the area, health history and device suitability.
  2. Applicators are positioned and run for a set cycle, with comfort checks. Ask whether the booking covers one area or several.

How it feels

Fat freezing involves cold and suction; heat devices feel warm or hot; muscle stimulation causes repeated contractions.

Downtime

Tenderness, bruising or swelling can follow. Cooling may leave numbness lasting longer; muscle stimulation can leave soreness. Many people resume routine activity, but this varies by device.

Results

When you might see a change. Changes generally take weeks to months. Cooling-based fat reduction is commonly assessed after about 2–3 months.

How long it might last. Results may be limited or temporary. Weight changes and the technology affect durability; maintenance cannot be promised to preserve a result.

How often?

Cooling may be followed by a review before another session. Muscle stimulation and some heat treatments use a course. Ask for the total plan and cost for the exact device.

Before your appointment
  • Confirm the device, area and number of cycles included.
  • Disclose hernias, implants, altered sensation, pregnancy and cold-related disorders.
Aftercare
  • Follow the device-specific activity and skin-care plan.
  • Report persistent pain, burns or a new/enlarging firm bulge after fat freezing.
Is it right for everyone?

Cold sensitivity disorders can rule out fat freezing; implants can rule out some heat or stimulation devices. Rarely, freezing can enlarge fat tissue and require surgery.

Common reasons people book
  • A localised contour concern
  • Discussing muscle-toning options
What your practitioner will confirm

The device and indication must be named. Evidence for fat freezing does not support promises about muscle stimulation, or vice versa.

Treatment details are a general guide. Your practitioner will confirm what is suitable for you, the exact treatment plan and aftercare.
