RF tightening / Thermage
What it is
Needle-free radiofrequency warms tissue through a handpiece on the skin. It is used for firmness concerns on the face or body. Thermage is one system; other RF devices may use quite different courses.

- Downtime

- Results

What to expect
- The area and any implants are assessed before treatment.
- A handpiece works across marked sections. The practitioner monitors skin response and your comfort.
How it feels
Repeated heat pulses, sometimes with cooling or vibration. Tell the practitioner if the heat becomes painful.
Downtime
Flushing may settle within a day. Swelling or tenderness can take several days, occasionally longer. Many people resume work quickly, but visible recovery is possible.
Results
When you might see a change. Any change builds gradually, often assessed over 2–6 months for Thermage.
How long it might last. Thermage describes results in some people lasting 1–2 years. Ageing continues, and this is not a duration guarantee or evidence for other RF devices.
How often?
Thermage is commonly a single session with later review. Other RF systems may need a course; ask for the named device’s plan. Repeat only if appropriate after reassessment.
Before your appointment
- Disclose electronic or metal implants, previous fillers and recent procedures.
- Ask about treatment area, cooling and comfort measures.
Aftercare
- Keep skincare gentle while tender; follow activity advice for the treated area.
- Report blisters, burns, persistent numbness or uneven changes.
Is it right for everyone?
Thermage must not be used with certain electrical implants such as pacemakers. Pregnancy, active skin disease and other conditions require assessment. Burns and contour irregularities are possible.
Common reasons people book
- Skin firmness on face or body
- Mild looseness
What your practitioner will confirm
The device determines the protocol. An ordinary course of RF facials should not be described as Thermage.
Treatment details are a general guide. Your practitioner will confirm what is suitable for you, the exact treatment plan and aftercare.
